And to me at least, it was pretty strongly implied in Chapter 7 that he is an alternate version of Guy (which tracks with my rough personal interpretation of what happened in Ester City). Alva's grandfather (who never gets any backstory aside from the fact that he apparently came from an almost mythical city named Ester City)Īlva and Isabel's adoptive grandfather is also at least known for sure to be Lee's biological grandfather. Sam could've asked to keep the winnings I suppose, but she didn't. Sam was accused of cheating because of the lucky coin - I can't imagine when you are accused of cheating you should keep your winnings. I guess they just don't get to keep what Sam won in the slot machine? Third, Sam seemingly has developed complete amnesia of all of the events at Greenberg, which is presumably Mother's doing. What are you supposed to tell them that they don't already know? But we don't see that directly there, and even if she wasn't at the time, Isabel and Alva certainly talk to each other. Isabel was there, she ushered John and Sam out of their shack to get onto the train - Alva presumably was too, in the form of The Sonic Punk, given that we had seen her following and "helping" Isabel prior to this. Second, the two people most qualified to know and deal with the miasma are Isabel and Alva. First, New Dam City is introduced before you're even there as a city that needs not worry about the Miasma, because of the Buddha Fan / Wind God.

Arriving in New Dam City, the three decide to carve a life out for themselves in the city and not warn anyone important about what happened in Greenberg and that maybe the miasma is mobile and could one day reach New Dam City since it did come from seemingly out of nowhere and boned Greenberg. 5, he doesn't exactly seem to express surprise when Sam is asleep and William breaks character, talking to John directly ("I don't remember you having a daughter.") John on the other hand, again, doesn't really talk, and I get the impression he knew from the outset - he would've been perfectly able to recognize who William was. William denies from the outset that he's ever even heard of the place, but later when he does slip up in chapter five, the moment you describe very literally does happen, with Sam having an outburst and saying something along the lines of "wait a minute, you really are that William!". What a coincidence! Did you say you were also from there, William?" Why didn't this obvious trope from a child character not come up in the writing phase of this plot? Anyway.

Like even a kid would be like "Hey, the robot boy is named Daniel? I know a Daniel back in Potcrock Isle as well. This is a good time to backtrack to Potcrock Isle where there was a prominent side character named Daniel who became friends with Sam and never once did it click in any of the protagonists' heads to even just acknowledge this coincidence where they'd get two meet two different Daniels in their adventure even after William slips up and unintentionally informs the gang that he was once a resident of Potcrock Isle. Sam, fair, but she might've been more preoccupied by her other self and generally not understaning what is going on. involved them stumbling into a weird future sci-fi lab that no one in the gang questions or tells the town about especially after the big scary computer in there said "MIASMA ACTIVATED". I agree that there are quite a few gaps that the story leaves for you to fill in, but i think you might've just missed a lot, also.
